I'm no optical engineer, but I know the problem of chromatic correction is quite complex. CA varies based on displacement from the optical center, and isn't always entirely linear: I've found that sometimes a good correction at the corners of the frame throws off the center by a little bit, or that I can get center and edge in perfect but there's an annulus where it has grown, etc.
