I don't think you can say that without seeing the photographs, Cotty. I don't see it as much different from using a rangefinder or perhaps a camera on a tripod with a cable release.
Much of the art is in the placement, and knowing what will happen where. It's an extreme version of picking your shot and waiting for it to come to you.
