Given some discussion recently about a suitable lens for bird
photography, here's a recent one taken with the Tokina 400/5.6
stove-pipe of mine! Manual focus, of course, so maybe not the best
option for birds in flight...

I would respectfully suggest that there is no single suitable lens for
bird photography. What is good for a humming bird might not do for an
ostrich. I took some reasonable bird pictures a week ago with a 50 mm
Sigma macro and a 2X doubler on the *ist D. It was a rather small bird
-- a Tree Creeper. Standing for fifteen minutes, dead still in -15C to
get six shots, was painful. I have other, more colourful, language to
describe the after effects.
