the photo shop tomorrow and try out both lenses as per your suggestion. I

I can't give you a direct comparison, but I have the Tamron (two
ring) zoom, and it is superb, both optically and mechanically.
If you can, put a few frames past eash lens and decide from the
proof prints. My money is on the Tamron being the better lens.
