Regardless of what you've been told, or what you think, a quality 500 mm 
mirror lens is usually no more than 3" long and a little less thick (about 82 
mm filter size) at the most. 
Better still, unless you are thinking about a Vivitar solid CAT mirror, a 500 
mm mirror lens (plus hood) weighs around two pounds. 
Any PENTAX made 300 mm lens plus a PENTAX 2Xs teleconvertor is going to weigh 
in at four pounds or more.
