Here in North America (at least) fans in some cities boo their own
team if they're playing poorly.

But, you'd be surprised, Boris.  It rather sounds like you've never
been a part of a large crowd at a sporting event.  Even if you're not
a fan of either team, or even a fan of the sport, one gets caught up
in the emotion of the event (at least I do).  It's all part of the fun
of going to see something live, IMHO.
