I've got to agree with you there, Ken.  I've never been at the
start/finish line, but I saw several Can Am races at Mosport, near
Toronto, starting in 1972.  That year Team McLaren (Denny Hulme and
Peter Revson) was there, and other than the RC Cola Porsche 917
Turbos, I'm guessing pretty much everyone was running big block V8s
(mostly Chevys).

After the Turbos were outlawed, and everyone went back to big 8's, it
ended up that the Shadows (among the most beautiful racing cars ever)
were running faster laps than the Turbos used to, IIRC.

Anyway, you're right, Ken - CanAm races were visceral experiences!
