Even film scanner vs Epson 2450 flatbed scanner shows the film scanner to be superior, as can be seen by clicking on this comparison of scanning a Minox 8x11mm negative with Minolta Scan Dual II vs Epson 2450:

The question is, how much resolution do you need for your output print? The few 4x5 negs I've scanned on the Epson make very nice 16x20 inch prints. I'm sure quality drum scans would be even better, but there is a point of diminishing returns from the effort. If you're making 8x10 to 11x14 prints, the difference can be difficult to see.

I would agree with that. Although compared to even a drum scan of a 6x7 neg, the Epson scan of a 4x5 is superior.

Having seen one neg scanned on both a Heidelberg drum scanner and on an Epson, I'd suggest that a 4x5 neg scanned on a high-end drum scanner would deliver ~superb~ results, and that results from an Epson are a few steps
below superb.

My Epson 3200 has a film holder for 4x5, so moire is not a problem. I'm sure the newer Epsons come similarly equipped. I've scanned 4x5 at 3200
dpi, and the results are superb.
