Not in the least surprising.  Violence is rarely the answer.
Either side can come up with more than enough rationalisations
to explain why it's necessary to perpetuate the situation.
There's precedent in Cyprus, the Balkans, Ireland, etc., etc.

John, Tom, Juan, you're right - violence can not be the answer.

The problem (the real one) is that the mere existence of State of Israel makes many millions of people want to destroy it. It is not obvious indeed, but State of Israel is not fighting to keep the lands or to set the solid border or to pacify the neighbors and to live in peace along with them... None of the above is the real reason. The real reason of this never ending circle of violence is the existence of Jewish State as such.

The saddest thing is that blood with continue to be drawn...
