Hi Scoot,
If you are careful enough, there is no way you can damage the
focusing machanism by rotating the screw: that's what it is
supposed to do, to rotate... Even if you turn it full clockwise
or counter-clockwise you cannot do any harm.
You should rotate the coupling screw COMPLETELY (which direction
I do not recall now) and then check in the viewfinder if you can
obtain focus at infinity.
Did you try to mount it without touching the screw? Is the focus
working already?
