Did you convert to sRGB in PhotoShop before doing the Save for Web? That should solve your problem.

FWIW, I saw the post on the list and even sent a suggestion. However, that
message has neither turned up on the list nor in the archives.

You're comparing a 16-bit PSD viewed in Photoshop with a compressed 8-bit image shown outside Photoshop. How to the JPEGs look when viewed within
Photoshop? What color profile are you using for the PSD files?

Something is definitely amiss with the list, because
two messages have not appeared in 5-6 hours after
posting. Herewith the other from me.

Pursuing the suggestions posted here, I changed the
color space to sRGB, and checked the "ICC Profile" box
in the control panel that choosing "Save for Web"
brings up.

The "Save for Web" images, on both the left and right
sides of the screen, are still considerably brighter
and less contrasty than the psd source images.

When I save the psds as jpgs, there is no such shift.

Anybody have a solution?

Rick
