thank you william for your response and thoughtful analysis. i am in the
process of getting my smallest phillips head for the upcoming surgery.
another pug-ster suggested perhaps a program plus as a back-up body to the mx.
interesting thought-A lens contacts and dof. i'm unfamilar w/the viewfinder.
anyone use/like/dislike the pentax program plus?
on a cost/value basis a program plus or a zx-m, assuming the zx-m is $25-ish
more than the program plus.

The MX meter is activated by a switch on the bottom of the
camera, right under the shutter button. If you remove the bottom
plate, you will see what somewhat like a set of points out of an
automobile distributor. This is the switch. Clean the contacts
and make sure the little insulator is in place. This may cure
the problem.
