I'd guess I use the central AF point for less than half of my shots.

The wider choice of AF points was one of the features I most liked
when moving from the MZ-S to the *ist-D (just as it was one of the
features that tempted me to move to the MZ-S from the PZ-1p).

I believe the selected AF point is retained (at least when the AF
mode is switched during a session), so you can very quickly switch
between the central AF point and a different one by moving the AF
selector on the back, although I've never found it difficult to do
using the four-way controller.
