I believe you're right in the first part but the conclusions about technology is 
somewhat premature. I understand there has been quite a change at the top level at 
Pentax and have gotten the impression that where the older board was prone to selling 
the patents to Canon the new board is not. I've heard that the new restructuring 
program imply that Asahi technology will be destilled down to the Pentax customers to 
a larger extent than previously. All this is rather vague due to the nature of these 
things but many people believe this is the case. Its also apparent that the licensing 
of technology for short term profit has hurt the brand value - Pentax marketed IS and 
eye-cntrol would have benefited the Pentax name more than licensing (or selling?) it 
to Canon. Something needs to be done with this aspect and Pentax have recently 
announced that increasing the brand value and recognition has a strong priority.
