Yes - after posting my reply below I thought its head looks rather like a
hyena's. 

I've been very, very close (without protection) to wild hyenas, and they are
very scary creatures. Can hyenas and dogs have babies? Even if they can, if
the dog is in Afghanistan I don't see how it could a hyena could be one of
its parents. 

As others have pointed out, its legs look unnaturally long. However, I'm no
expert on dogs (don't like them - I was savaged by an Alsatian when I was a
child). Could it be a cross-breed (perhaps a greyhound) with a pariah?
There's definitely a lot of pariah in there.
