Collin, TIFF is a container format for images. You can stuff all sorts
of different types of image related data into a TIFF file, which is why
RAW data has traditionally used a TIFF or modified TIFF container for
data. There are a couple of generally accepted schemes for putting 8 or
16 bit images that are either losslessly compressed or uncompressed into
the TIFF container format, these are usually what's referred to as
'TIFF' images.

Collin,
without wanting to be rude in any way,
ok.
if you had read past posts carefully you would know that:
There's a lot to read. I like PDML but have more to do (i.e., a "life")
than scan the many postings for minutae.
RAW format is sensor data, be it compressed or not, and in which way,
depends on the manufacturer.
At some times I got the impression that the raw data is sensor data.
At other times it seemed that it's merely a TIFF file that's been
encapsulated.
Converters may or may not be free, they can be standalone applications or
plugins. This depends on the manufacturer as well.
There's been a lot of talk of downloads but no, not that I've noticed,
thread that listed items and prices.
Personally, I use RawShooter essentials, which is standalone and free.
Look at www.pixmantec.com.
The link is helpful. Thanks.
Cheers,
