Hello,

Last week I bought a K1000 with an SMCP-A 50mm 2.0, a Promaster
Spectrum7 80-200 4.5-5.6, and a nice bag at a local consignment shop (my
first Pentax). When comparing the K1000's meter readings with my Canon
T70 and AE-1 Program, with similar lenses, the readings are quite
inconsistent. Sometimes the K1000 gives the exact same reading as the
Canons, sometimes overexposes and sometimes underexposes, usually by
about 1 stop.

I put a test roll through the camera. Most of the shots were with flash
and they came out perfectly. Of the ones without flash, most were
underexposed, though a couple of macro shots were good.

It is possible have this repaired and if so would it be cheaper to buy
another K1000? Does Pentax still service this model? If it can't be
fixed for less than $100 I'll probably just buy another one, or get a
handheld meter. Or could this problem be caused by using an alkaline A76
battery instead of the silver-oxide S76?

Other than the meter the K1000 is in great shape, shutter speeds seem
accurate, light seals are fine. It appears to be the older Japan-made
K1000. I like the feel of this camera, and it's nearly complete lack of
electronics. I'd like to replace my unsupported Canon FD system with a
Pentax one, and could do so cheaply if I buy used gear.

Also, any opinions on the Kalimar 500mm f8? The shop where I bought the
camera has one for $100, though I could probably get it for $75. Is it
worth it? I'm not familiar with this brand.

Thanks,
Ryan
