This /may/ work with a *ist D. I'm using a remote cable that is meant for a range of different cameras Canon, Nikon, Pentax etc (Chinese) and it works well with the D. First press focuses and measures -- normal -- second press fires shutter. This one may be the same. The plug looks right anyway.
