Actually, this isn't entirely true. I do like unique products and I do think
that if a certain level of hand making is involved Pentax should take
advantage of that and provided customization. Some European car manufacturers
offers extensive choices for their customers. Not only the options you find
in the brochure but also "under the table" options or simply anything the
customers might want. When you can order a car to fit your specifications,
why not a camera?

I think a number of people appreciate the facility to " user-custom" their pride & 
joy, without detracting from its` value. Viz LX grip A - carve to your personal specs. 
There`s something undeniably personal about that mod - yet remove the grip, and it`s 
just like any other LX.
