That's about where I stand, too.

We know we're going to get the two control wheels, which means
we can expect Hyper modes that work just like the D (& PZ-1p).
That, plus a portrait release on a grip, and a 10MP sensor, makes
it extremely likely I'll be buying one unless it feels far more
flimsy than my *ist-D.

I expect the buffer size and frame rate to at least match that
of the DS, even with the larger pixel count. I'd really like
more (4fps RAW for at least 20 frames), but I'd probably still
buy the camera even if it only matched the DS.

I'm also hoping that the faster autofocus hinted at (by Pentax)
materializes. I don't really care if this is achieved by USM,
or by simply putting a far more powerful AF motor in the body,
coupled with some improvements to the AF software algorithms.
I'm not convinced that the talk of evolution of the K-mount has
to mean USM - it could mean one of a number of things (such as
digital transcoders to report lens aperture, rather than relying
on a 25-year-old mechanical system with all its limitations).
I do expect that whatever the new features are they will first
show up in the f2.8 zooms which, according to the lens road map
from Pentax, are due to be released a little after the K10D.

I don't do a lot with flash, so that's less important to me.
But it would certainly be nice to see a camera that makes use of
fill flash, etc., as simple and reliable as it was on the PZ-1p.

Does any of the above count as "unreasonable speculation" ?
I don't think so - I'd reserve that categorization for the
suggestion we're going to see the return of the aperture
simulator, or a sensor significantly larger than APS-C in
a K-mount body. But, of course, nobody ever considers their
own ideas unreasonable, do they?
