Not sure what the shutter design has to do with the mirror,
but the short answer is yes, MLU works with a cloth shutter.
My Spotmatic SPII does MLU with the "flick the shutter
button" trick, and my KX has a bona fide MLU control on
the front, and they both have cloth shutters.
