There's an undocumented trick for getting mirror lock-up with the KX, KM, K1000
and MX.

The shutter button for these cameras activates separate mechanisms for the
mirror-up/diaphragm-stop-down and the shutter release. It's possible to activate
thst the mirror-up and lens stop-down *without* tripping the shutter and then
trip the shutter afterwards.

Here's the trick: You have to kind of flick the shutter button quickly with a
downward motion of your finger, rather than pressing it smoothly as usual. If
you do it just right, you'll hear a gently click and the viewfinder will go
dark, indicating that the mirror had gone up but not back down. Then you trip
the shutter with a second press of the shutter button (or, preferably, attach a
cable release and use that to trip the shutter).

Practice without any film in the camera. It took me a bit of experimentation to
get it (verbal descriptons aren't the greatest fot this sort of thing) and a
while longer to really get the hang of it but it works well once you learn the
technique.

It's obviously less convenient than a proper mirror lock-up like the KX/K2 but
it does work when you really need it. If you need mirror lock-up of a consistent
basis, your best bet is to get a KX or K2.
