That thought struck me after I sent that message -- dunno why it
never came to me earlier.

I'm going to try both of y'all's suggestions. Thanks. I'll let
you know how it comes out.
Unfortunately the shoes are no longer wearable (just plain wore
those suckers out, but it did take me a few years), but I held
on to them just in case I had any good ideas (or got any good
suggestions) for photographing them. There's still a couple of
angles from which they should look okay.
I need to ask the friend who gave them to me where she got them
so I can look for another pair.
