Hi Bill,

Welcome back.  I have one.  It's the one I keep on the *ist D as my default 
lens, because driving down the dirt road or whatever, it's handy to have 
something with it's range when I come across something unexpectedly.  I'd 
say it's overall satisfactory.  Definitely a fine lens for casual snapshot 
type of work.

If I'm not in a hurry and I have other primes that will work for what I'm 
doing, I use the primes.
