A device like this would be useful for long trips in quite remote places, where it's important to keep the bulk & weight down, and avoid dependence on an electrical supply. A laptop would be too bulky and couldn't run for long enough without a top-up of electricity.
Also, for something like long-distance walking or cycling a laptop would be a major pain. On my bike trip last month I was only away for 4 nights, but I still managed to fill all the xD cards, and had to delete photos to make room for more. A device like this would have been useful even for a short trip like that. A slightly worrying aspect of the device, as far as I can see, is that you can't review your pictures. I know the blurb says it has extra-double-plus read-after-write triple-encoded superzoom checking, but still, unless you can see the picture there's always going to be that nagging thought in your mind that when you get back from your 7-year trip to Tralfamadore, there won't be anything on the disk... -- Cheers, Bob > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On > Behalf Of Shel Belinkoff > Sent: 04 September 2006 23:56 > To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List > Subject: Re: Hyperdrive Image Storage Device > > Hi Bob, > > I don't want to carry around a laptop, but, in any case, my > inquiry is on > behalf of a friend.
