Name an 8 or 10MP DSLR (not made by Olympus; the 4/3 sensor compromises 
their products IMHO) that has worse noise characteristics than a 6MP 
Pentax.  I'll give you one: The Kodak DCS14n (which doesn't count in my 
opinion either because it was a very expensive POS and was basically 
recalled for upgrades based on it's poor noise performance).  The 
offerings from Canon and Nikon have been very, very good and I expect 
the K10D to be just as good if not better than them.

I agree that the the benefits of the K10D extend beyond the pixel count. 
  It's going to be a killer camera.  The SR working for ANY lens gives 
it a huge leg up on the competition.  Pentax HAD to give it a higher 
pixel count because consumers want it.  Full stop.
