Interesting, because I have heard that college professors are just former college students with no real life experience (a favorite comment of several engineers I know). Note that the kid made no comments about relative quality or artistic merit, just commented on his own feelings about the matter. Also he is a senior so just a bit more mature than the younger kids.
I tend to judge people as individuals, especially when dealing with them face to face.
