In fact, it's good to take up an expensive, dangerous hobby in which
you have no interest and no intention of pursuing. That way you can
"reluctantly give it up" in return for....

Sometimes even having had an expensive, dangerous hobby in the past
and occasionally reminiscing about it longingly is enough to be highly
beneficial. Whenever I feel the leash tightening I bring out photos
from my motorcycle roadracing days. That usually puts thing sin
perspective. :)
