Unfortunately it sounds like you struck a typical arrogant d*ckhead, he will continue to give you grief given that he's already talking fraud. Send the payment back (by registered post, I know it's another cost but it will be your only proof of return, even take photos of it). Then, hopefully, you will be able to have the negative comment (which I'm sure will be forthcoming in record time) rescinded via the eBay dispute mechanism.
