Heretical as it may be to suggest it, perhaps the reason that Cosina *don't* make more digital cameras is precisely because they design for photographers, and thus market to photographers. This somewhat limits their market share, which in turn limits their R&D budget.
Let's face it - Canon aren't exactly going broke making some of the worst entry-level DSLRs available, and selling them by the truckload to people who don't know any better. That doesn't mean everything they make is rubbish - the mid-range anmd up Canons are first-rate pieces of equipment, And while some may disagree, I feel that much of the recent resurgence of Pentax has been made possible mostly by their drive towards the low end (D to DS to DL to K110), going for a broader and broader market base with each step.
