The much-maligned JPEG quality is a result of the DS native, default settings being created to produce excellent 4x6 inch prints *directly out of the camera*. It is NOT the optimal setup for pixel peeping at full resolution or post-process editing. If your goal is to take pictures that you're going to print directly out of the camera to a 4x6 print, use the default settings. For better, more editable JPEGs destined for larger format printing: 1- use Natural not Bright color rendering. This implies use of P-Av- Tv-M exposure modes, not Auto Picture and scene modes as it will ONLY use Bright color in those modes. 2- set the custom function for the Adobe RGB colorspace. 3- if you're going to use in-camera JPEG capture mode, experiment with setting contrast and saturation lower. Leave sharpness alone. Godfrey -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
