Tim, I think that even as good a lens as Tamron 300/2.8 is best closed down just a bit. Another point - applying -1Ev to 800 ISO is like asking for noise. Obviously you know all that, but if you had proper tripod, which I know you did, why didn't you try slightly longer exposure time with f/3.5 or even f/4 and 400 ISO? Was it windy? > Gee!
