The current American and Canadian "football" rules are an outgrowth of a
peace conference between Harvard and Yale University, brokered by a
former President of the US. It was thought necessary because so many
young men were being killed and maimed playing the previous version of
American "football". That same President received a Nobel Peace Prize
for brokering a peace treaty, though not that particular treaty.
