I originally got some light modifiers and some AF360FGZ's with stands to do a poor man's setup. What I found was the smaller flashes just didn't have enough power. When shooting in that environment, it is not uncommon to want some fairly small apertures for DOF and the clip-on flashes just don't have it. On top of that, you have no modeling lights, so it can be difficult to see what is going on with your lighting setups.
I finally broke down and got a couple of Alien Bees and have been very happy with them. Based on my experience, I think you would be way happier with real lighting rather than trying to cobble together a couple of small flashes. -- Best regards, Bruce Saturday, September 23, 2006, 8:27:46 AM, you wrote: DJB> I am hoping sometime in the new year, to pick up some sort of starter DJB> studio kit, like an umbrella or two etc. DJB> I'd like to walk into the store and not look like a complete dolt, DJB> just a moderate one<g> so i;'m looking for some advise.
