This one can't make it on his own without the crutch of working two jobs. Actually, every socialist I know works at least full time. Most often in those jobs that give back to the community in some way (educators, counselors working with troubled youth, etc.) You'll find people of the socialist bend typically place a very high value on learning and critical thinking.
