No photo list is a place to showcase any photo equipment. There are no
photos of equipment. Is the purpose to showcase photos taken with Pentax
equipment? Yes, but not entirely. I don't believe that the purpose is solely
to share photos with others either. It's unlikely to be all that black and
white. Given the history of the PUG, it's unlikely there will be an answer
satisfactory to all.
Any casual viewing of the PUG from any month or year makes clear the
excellent talent of the posters. I assume that these talented folk joined
this list because they own Pentax equipment, prefer it, or find it adequate
to at least some of their purposes. The PUG is our opportunity to show what
we can do with the equipment to which this list is dedicated and for which
we joined.
To my way of seeing it, the PUG exists as an adjunct to this list. Photos
taken using Pentax equipment are "On Topic". Photos taken without Pentax
equipment are "Off Topic". Jeep Jamborees are about getting together to
climb over rough, remote terrain. It would be bad form to try to attend a
Jeep Jamboree with a Hummer. Formal dinners are about good food and
conversation just like barbecues. Nevertheless, it is bad form to show up in
casual wear.
I think it's erroneous to assume that the photos we submit are all about us,
or all about our rendition of our personal view through the finder, or all
about what we have to say. It's also about something outside of this.
