Isn't it a great lens?  I got incredibly lucky when I got mine.  Some NorCal 
list members may remember me using mine at our last gathering, when we were 
out shooting the Blue Angels from San Francisco.

My favorite part of the 500mm 4.5 is the sights on the top, which (as long 
as you have them aligned properly) allow you to shoot without having to look 
through the viewfinder.  This is how I was able to catch the Blue Angels 
crossing directly in line with my lens, which I don't think the other guys 
were able to do.  Seeing a full view makes long telephoto shooting of action 
scenes a HELL of a lot easier, since you can see what'll be in the frame 
before it gets there.
