I always ship overseas. It's simple enough. Probably around $60 to ship
an MF camera to Australia via airmail and with insurance. However, the
buyer sometimes have to pay substantial customs fees, and some react
angrily. I think that has caused some sellers wto be wary of
international shippers. I warn buyers in advance that I'm not
responsible for duties, taxes or customs fees.

I use mainly Priority Mail boxes which are free from USPS. So if I ship
overseas I have to come up with other boxes. That is a problem. Also I don't
want
to be paid by Western Union since there isn't really a convenient local office.
I have to go really out of my way to cash in Western Union. The other problem
is import duties, sometime foreign buyers don't totally realize that they may
have to pay heavy fees on top. I mark them as gifts, which I am a bit uneasy
about, but sometimes that doesn't always seem to work anyway. I'd rather not
do that actually, and sometimes I don't if it is a low ticket item. Feels like
lying.

So I list that I will sell in the US only. However, if someone contacts me
privately and asks -- I will usually say yes, as long as they understand the
shipping will be a lot more, they can pay through PayPal, and they may have
import duties as well.

But, normally, yes the US market is big enough and it's a lot less hassle for
me. That is why I say no international shipping. Also if the buyer doesn't
like what they bought -- it is much easier to return within the US. I feel I
have to pay for shipping back if a buyer doesn't like it. Has that ever
happened?
Not to me yet, but it's come close a couple of times.

Of course, usually I am not selling cameras and photographic equipment, which
are high ticket items. I did sell my K-1000 to someone in Australia though,
when he asked. If someone can arrange for a US recipient for their item that
works best.
