I've been led to believe that these converters were optimized for the longer lenses (urban legend ?). I have both the 1.4 X-L & 2.0 X-L Pentax converters - I've never tried to attach them to other than my 300mmFA & 600mmFA lenses so I can't answer you question directly, but I can tell you they won't physically fit without damage to some shorter lenses due to the protuberance on the front end of these converters that fits into the rear end of the lens. On my 28-80mm F, when zoomed, the protuberance on the convertor contacts the rear of the lens, outboard/forward of the mount.
