Hmmm - How would it know if I wasn't on line? - I disconnect
the connection on the new
machine unless I need to do something on line. 

There is nothing on the machine that I ever "run all the
time" that I'm aware off.

Which is what I've done so far... 

ah now here is a question -- if I ignore them for a  month
or so, and then
pay attention, has it accumualated the things on the list?

I've made MOzilla Firefox my default browser, but the one
time I was about to let an update in
Explorer popped up.
