It's just not that simple. The file has to contain more useful
information for it to be an advantage, yes? Just adding 4 bits doesn't
mean that there will be more useful information. The RAW file is not
an output file, the demosaiced file is an output file and it's quite
possible and in many cases desirable to generate a 16 bit RGB file
from a 12 bit RAW file.

Sensor limitations are nil to do with Pentax innovations, silicon
sensors by their nature are limited by how much they can be improved
beyond the current status quo. The integration of the new 22 bit ADC
and processor is hopefully an innovation however it can't produce
miracles either.
