Of course it's academic since it's not an option with the current
firmware, but I don't think it would be too bad. The +-EV only works
within 3 EV from wide open, and even then you have to do the math of how
many stops you are from wide-open. With absolute numbers, it'd be easier.
My experience (most of my lenses are K/M) is that "changing" light (e.g.
high contrast areas and changing framing) happen quite often. Moreso than
changing aperture often times for me at least. The CW metering of K/M is
especially twitchy in those conditions (exacerbated by the split-prism
focus screen I've got installed).
I would also like to add that the GB-kludge could also be made to
work adaptively. Rather than FIX the Tv and Av, have it compute the
difference from wide-open to stopped down. Then keep the program meter
working as light changes. Then you only need to hit GB if you move the
aperture ring.
Lots of potential ways to hack around the fundamental problem.
