I dunno about them readers built in to the computer. Mine, a brand new XP with a lot of bells and whistles, is a real DOG if I use the SD slot built in. If I use my USB 2.0 reader, it is at least 10 X faster, maybe more. Apparantly some of those reader slots are not USB protocols.
