Minolta did this with MD mount cameras well after the introduction of the MAxxum. Canon chose another path, the one where the customer pretty much gets shafter. You are also avoiding your previous statement regarding long term support of lenses being of the greatest importance, and in fact, you have said you would consider buying a camera from a company that has a history of dropping support for their customers.
