Shel, You'll probably have better luck researching specific photographers. There are quite a few interviews and bios available online. e.g. David Alan Harvey used to shoot with a Leica and 28mm, 35mm and 50mm lenses, but has switched to a Nikon digital system. Sam Abell has stated in more than one interview that he primarily uses two bodies, one with a 28mm and the other with a 90mm. He has changed systems several times and claims to use his cameras on 'P' more often than not, making adjustments to exposure as needed. Another NG photographer (sorry, can't remember who) claims to use Fuji Astia 100 exclusively, pushing to 200 when the light is low. I have had no luck figuring out which camera/lens was used for a particular photograph by searching through the Geographic's web site.
