I wouldn't say it's a bunch of hooey. And that's not because I just don't use phrases like "a bunch of hooey". <g> While I understand what you're saying, Tom, I think his point is rather well-taken. The type of person who "leaves [a dslr] on full automatic mode" is unlikely to care much what the resolution of his/her photos are. I think his point is that buying a feature-laden dslr, with all the flexibility they offer to assist a photographer's creativity, is a waste of money if all that's going to be done is leave it in full-auto mode. A similar situation is when body is bought as a kit with a consumer zoom, and that zoom is never taken off the camera. Why buy a camera with the ability to change lenses if that feature's never used?
