The good ones are. I specifically qualified
that in my post which you edited out. I stated
good zooms that hold focus while zooming 
and there definately are ones that do when
properly /assembled aligned. Its the first
thing I check when I buy a zoom as a matter
of fact. Some do, some dont.

This is not a good way to work. Most lenses aren't precise enough to  
hold accurate focus while zooming.
