The major reason to shoot DNG instead of PEF is that then you don't  
have to wait for Adobe to release v3.7 of Camera Raw to process your  
RAW files, and don't have to install the Pentax supplied software to  
generate DNGs or process the files (yuck).

It's a trade off: space for convenience. I'll likely turn on DNG and  
deal with the larger files. They're smaller than the Sony R1 RAW  
files ... 21Mbytes + 2-4Mbytes JPEG companion file.
