For the record, there is no perceptible time delay from the first half-
press to get IS and AF going, at least on a 70-200 L IS lens. It's the
only IS lens I have. There is no 'settling down' time. It is either
working or not. The IS switch on the lens sometimes gets knocked (and
switched off) by rubbing against clothing or being put in / taken out of
a bag. A bit of gaffer tape is needed to keep it permanently on. The
other switches are for mode 1 or mode 2 (panning  mode) and AF/MF. This
lens follows a close second to my A*85 1.4 as the best lens ever, for me.
