You know, if all things technical always worked exactly the way they
should, I'd agree about not needing to format a card.

As it is, the safest way to increase the reliability of your cards is
to always format them in the camera in which they will be used.

It may be superstion.  But after working with computers for 30 years,
I've found that "what should be" and "what makes common sense" often
don't.
